How can I tell the difference between a real and faux pearl?
Many people struggle telling the difference between a real and faux pearl; however, there are a few distinguishing factors that you can watch for. When looking at a pearl, if it seems unusually perfect, it is probably fake. You can also test a pearl by rubbing it on the bottom of the front teeth where you would bite from, and if it feels gritty chances are it is real. Similarly, if you rub two pearls together and they feel rough, it is a good indication of authenticity.
I love the look of glass bead, but I find they chip easily, any suggestions to prevent this from happening?
Glass does have a tendency to be fragile; however, there are a few things that you can do to decrease the risk of them chipping. While you can’t control how a package is treated while being shipped, consider purchasing insurance as well as a guarantee from the company you are purchasing from. Also buy a storage system that will allow you to store beads in an organized protected manner. They do often require extra care than other beads, but when properly packaged and stored, they can maintain their allure.
I need to purchase beads for 50 women to make a necklace for a work convention, I’ve been to several different craft store, but they don’t have enough beads in stock for me to buy. Any suggestions?
I would suggest that you purchase through the Internet. Online shopping allows you to research different products, as well as, prices. You will also be able to buy in bulk and may often receive a discount for doing so. Make sure to purchase in advance in case of an error in shipping or any other problem that could occur, simply to be prepared.
